Communicating with S5

I want to use an opc server to communicate with s5 through programming interface using rs232 port with TTY converter. Are there any possible OPC servers and drivers to use? Can KepServerEX or ProTool/Pro be used for these kind of applications?

Dear Sir,

You can use Kepserver OPC to communicate with S5 Siemens PLC try the Ethernet Encapsulation Technique! if you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

S5 programming port follows AS-511 protocol, you
need to take OPC server for the same , yes it is
available.

Kepware works very well. We have used int in our projects. Also MERZ has a OPC server for AS511.

Try Software Toolbox or Kepware, I think they make OPC servers for the AS511 protocol used by the programming port. Beware though it's not fast!

Hi,

Wenn you use Protool/Pro it is possible that the S5 CPU is talking with the PC or MP. The PC or MP can be a OPC client over Ethernet for other PC's.

Maybe it is cheaper to communicatie directly with Profibus or Ethernet with the S5-CPU and use a driver that communicates with OPC, then you have to place a CP5431 or a CP1430 in the S5, the S5 have to be then a 115U or bigger.

More information on this last solution you may find on the link www4.ad.siemens.de and typing by search "OPC&S5".
