Hello All,

I am trying to compare different DCS systems. I found that the term I/Os especially Intelligent I/Os doesn't have the same meaning for everybody. Therefore, I am calling for suggestions on the definition of these terms:

1) Standard I/O

2) Intelligent or Smart I/Os

For different manufacturer of DCS. Please provide examples if you can

 

1) Standard I/O
4-20 mA inputs/outputs

2) Intelligent or Smart I/Os
4-20 mA inputs/outputs with HART communication capability. It might also mean 4/20 mA vs Foundation Fieldbus or some other form of fieldbus
