DeviceNet with inactive nodes

We have a SLC500 PLC, processor 1747-L542C 5/04 CPU - 32K Mem. OS401 Series C F and a 1747 SDN scanner, connected to other devices via DeviceNet. One of the devices would be turned off frequently since it would not be used. Is there a way to make the rest of the system, i.e. the other devices and the PLC, working and for example see the inputs/outputs from the inactive node as zeros?

I was thinking about using two DeviceNet scanners and one of them dedicated to communication with the nodes that can go "offline".

Any suggestions?
