difference between cranking motor and starting motor

The words are used interchangeably to refer to the same motor--the one used to START the turbine. The same motor is also used to CRANK the turbine (spin it at a low speed (approximately 20% of rated, sometimes lower) for testing, calibration(s), purging, etc.

During STARTing, the purging process is sometimes also referred to as "cranking".

The English language can be very difficult to decipher at times.... The French language, which is supposedly such a great technical language, can also be difficult to decipher at times.

Anyway, great question, and I hope this answer was helpful! If not, let us know and we will try to clarify.
