GE frame 6001 - gear compartment ventilation fan air flow

@bidrohini,

What is the rated air flow rate for the cooling air fan driven by 88BA-3 motor in a GE-design Frame 6B heavy duty gas turbine Load Compartment? (I would think it would be on the fan nameplate, but it's probably been painted over, so some paint remover rubbed on the nameplate might reveal the rated air flow rate as it's usually stamped on the nameplate (particularly on older machines.) I would also think if there is no nameplate or the air flow rating can't be found that it would be helpful to provide the age of the machine in question (in other words, when was it originally installed?). Sometimes the information about auxiliaries like this can be found in the Operation & Maintenance Manual provided with the by the turbine packager (who may have been or may not have been GE).

@bidrohini,

He doesn't appear to be asking how to ask the packager or GE what the fan flow-rate is. He wants to know of someone reading this thread knows what the rated air flow-rate of a fan supplying cooling air driven by 88BA-3 is or should be. It's a simple question, but the data isn't always provided in the manuals supplied with the turbine-generator and auxiliaries. But there should be a nameplate, usually made of metal, that is firmly attached (by rivets or something similar) to the fan housing which has the name of the manufacturer and the air flow-rate of the fan; sometimes it even has the speed at which the fan should operate. It's quite common for the nameplate to be painted during installation or maintenance so sometimes it's necessary to remove the paint to be able to read the information. Many times the information is stamped on the nameplate.

88BA-3 is not the designation for the fan; it's the designation for the fan motor. Some Device Summary documents and/or the Cooling & Ventilation P&ID have the device number designation for the fan, but I don't recall every seeing the rated air flow for a cooling fan on the Device Summary or the P&ID.
