Heidenhain encoder with Mitsubishi protocol to mitsubishi drive

Hello,
I am interested in a Heidenhain RCN 223M encoder which claims to have the Mitsubishi absolute serial interface built into it.

Does anyone know of an application that is driving a generic motor with a mitsubishi drive, and if so what was involved? I know that mitsubishi seems somewhat against using someone elses motor and encoder (They don't advertise it at all), but we need a custom built motor with third party encoder in this application.
