Im new to all this so please bear with me.

I want to build a turntable something like this:

It is for a 360 photography studio I am building.

I wanted to use a stepper moter and a controller which I could press a button and the table would omatically turn to the next position (i.e. 0 egrees, 15 degrees, 30 degrees etc)

Has anyone any ideas where to start and what to use? I woud need the turntable to be able to take up to 50kg in weight (maybe heavier)

How are you planning to connect the motor to the table?  You probably want to find a stepper gear motor, or use a stepper motor with an added gearbox for torque.  A belt or chain drive might supply enough torque also.

One of those companies should be able to help...  It  sounds like a simple project, but if you have never used motor controls before, there can be a lot of details.

I've never used them, but you might try looking at oriental motors. They have a stepper based turntable that looks like it might be a worm gear implementation. I'm not sure if their weight limit would satisfy your requirements. For photographic performance their accuracy and speed should be OK. Maybe look at IAI (Intelligent actuator) they have a lot of prebuilt mechatronics, not sure if they have a turntable. Their pricing is reasonable for industrial applications.

Other than that you can buy a geared turntable with motor flange and use any NEMA stepper or servo. I'd opt for some kind of amplifier with built in controller and serial port or ethernet communication (If you want to PC control it someday).

Indexing tables are common in automation...here are a few names to look for:

CAMCO, Jackson Machine Products, Fibrotor.

Look for a used one and the lightest duty u can get for your application as many of these are for production industrial use.

go to lintech... they have turntable already made for this stuff... it also is geared down to a certain ratio
