What tools one must have to learn GE Control system? I have never worked on GE but have worked alstom system I want to understand logic by myself for MKV/MKVI/MKVIe.

Want to start learning GE system

Thanks

Are you working on a GE-design unit now, or know someone who is working on a Mark V-equipped unit who can send you software and drawings? Because you will likely need a dongle and Toolbox/ToolboxST software for Mark VI/VIe and that's not easy to obtain.

If you can understand relay ladder diagram-style logic you are in a good position to start from. Unfortunately, the documentation for GE Speedtronic equipment is very poor, and the documentation for understanding how any particular unit operates is worse. You really have to have access to a set of Operation & Maintenance Manuals for a particular unit, along with the control system software to have half a chance.

The other thing that is critical to learn is how to read P&IDs and then to really study a set for a particular unit and be able to go out and find devices and field instruments on the unit. Most people, managers especially, think it's only necessary to learn "Mark X" and that's all anyone needs to know, but it's MUCH more than that, as you probably have learned from your Alstom experience. Knowing what's supposed to happen when, and how to learn that from the information available is most critical. And digging in and spending lots of time learning and studying manuals and drawings and P&IDs is going to take a lot of time.

It helps when you have someone who can answer questions, too--and more than, "That's the way we've always done it!"

Hi,

It won't be big task for you to learn GE control system since you had GT experience.

Basically once you through about operations it'll be very easy to understand the rung display.

You can view the rungs from HMI while unit is running to know the logic status or you can read a manual.

I hope you have access to read & view the GE rung display.

take care
