I have an ABB PM5052 PLC connected to Remote I/O modules using an Ethernet IP scanner. I want to connect another device to the PLC using Modbus TCP/IP.

My question is:

• Can the ABB PLC communicate using both Ethernet IP and Modbus TCP/IP protocols simultaneously?
• Can the ABB PLC communicate using these 2 protocols using the same port at the same time ?

All devices are connected through a switch.

 

As seen from Ethernet, it is possible to communicate with Ethernet/IP and Modbus/TCP on the same physical port (as shown in the picture). Interesting however is what the ABB PLC allows - it could be that it doesn't allow multiple protocols to run simultaneously. Only way to know for sure is try it.
