</b>is there any way i can open this file on windows? or i can only open this on the mark v system?

thanks for your help.

Thanks for using the 'Search' feature of control.com!

It's not clear what program was used to create the .img file. If the Mark V operator interface which created the .img file was an <I> (which is technically an HMI, but GE also sells a MS Windows-based HMI which runs CIMPLICITY for the graphical user interface, and they call that an HMI (I call it a GE Mark V HMI), so an HMI isn't necessarily an HMI!), then it can't be directly opened; it's a proprietary file format which must be converted to something that is recognizable by other programs.

If the Mark V operator interface was an <I>, you will find the file you're looking for on the <I>, in G:\EXEC directory. You can copy that executable to any PC, along with the .img file, and run it convert the .img file to a .pcx file, which many word processing and (rich) text editor
programs recognize.

If the .img file was created on a GE Mark V HMI, then you'll have to determine what program was used to create the file in order to be able to view it.

Lasty, many times when <I>s were upgraded to GE Mark V HMIs, many unnecessary files were copied from the <I> to the GE Mark V HMI, which might mean that some .img files created with IDOS (the operating system which runs on <I>s) were copied to the GE Mark V HMI.

1)I also could not open the Image file with windows XP as said in the topics:
http://www.control.com/thread/1026226381#1026226479.

2)Besides, we have printer connected with Parallel port of the <I> Station. The printer is printing the alram & periodic reports normally. However, the Saved Images and Print image command is not working. I have seen the IO_PORTS & CONFIG files and both found o.k.

Thanks in advance.

1) It would be most helpful if you would describe exactly how you tried to open the file in MS-WindowsXP. MS-WindowsXP doesn't open files; applications that run under MS-WindowsXP open files. Files can be opened in MS-WindowsXP by double-clicking on them <b>if and only if</b> the file association is properly set. Sometimes it is; sometimes it isn't (the file association, that is).

You must first convert the .img file to a .pcx file using IMAGE_PC.EXE. IMAGE_PC.EXE is located on the <I> in G:\EXEC. If you type

IMAGE_PC /?

at a command prompt, you will get a "help" display about the various options and switches of the command, as well as the default swtich and option settings.

You must specify the name of the .IMG file to be converted followed by the name of the .PCX file to be created by the conversion utility.

From the thread cited, the respondent converted 7.IMG to 7.PCX with the following command?

IMAGE_PC 7.IMG 7.PCX

You can then copy the file 7.PCX to a PC running MS-WindowsXP and use an application like MS-Paint to open it.

2) There are too many files in the directory F:\SPOOL. You must delete some or all of the files in F:\SPOOL and then<b><i>be patient</b></i> when you click on 'Print Image' for the file to be spooled and then sent to the printer. It can take as much as 20-30 seconds; printing .img files is a low priority task for IDOS (not for operators, but for IDOS).

The most common mistake people make is to click on 'Print Image' and then assume the file will begin to print immediately, and when it doesn't they click again and again and again on 'Print Image' to try to force the <I> to print the file. I believe the "limit" is 10 files in the print queue before the <I> can't print .img files any more.

The following sequence, which i followed:
1)

F:\User\image_pc 81.img 81.pcx

The result was 81.pcx file generated in F:\User\(Checked by command F:\user\dir *.PCX)

2)
F:\User\copy 81.pcx a:
01 file copied to Blank floppy in A: drive

3) I copied 81.pcx file to PC (P4, Windows XP SP2), then right click and open with Paint.

Regarding printing: Saved images are <b>now</b> printing properly.

However print command for main page is not working.

With Thanks

But the result was unknown format.
