we have A alternator of Following Spec:

Make Siemens
Type IDT 4140-7 DE 02-Z
Phase 3
Voltage 6 KV + 5 %
Connection Star
Current 1443 Amp.
Power 15000 KVA
Power Factor 0.8
Speed 1500 rpm
Frequency 50 Hz
Magn. 67 volt
Current 941 Amps.

my question are under:-
Alternator stator design voltage are 6000 Volt, we want to operate on 3300 Volt.

1. is it possible?
2. what are the disadvantages of that exercise?

I want more clarification,

my exciting Power house is at 3.3 KV Bus. now i want to avoid extra cost of transformer, due to that I want to operate Generator on 3300 Volt instead of rated 6000 Volt.

regards,
Hussain

Hussain... the answer depends on a number of conditions... a major one being, "How much Power must be delivered at 3.3 kV?"

our maximum power requirement is 8 MW from alternator due to prim mover capacity of 9 MW.

please help me what are the disadvantages if Alternator operate on low voltages instead of rated?
&
1. are any one operate alternator at low voltage?

2. are we increase the insulation life due to its operating low voltages?

regards.

Hussain...

the specs you have provided indicate maximum capacity at 6-kV is 15-MW, if the generator's rated pf is unity!

If not unity, then the rated capacity, ignoring other yet to be revealed restrictions, could be as low as 6 MW.

Are you sure the rated pf is unity?

Regardless, there is a more economical solution. Contact me if interested, off or on-list.

Design Power Factor is 0.8, but we will increase it up to 0.9.

please give me the solution other then change the connection of stator winding star to delta. (star point is permanent couple.)

I will be thank full to you?

Hussain

Hussain, no, the plan I have in mind does not require reconnecting the generator to provide 3.5kV. Furthermore, the generator's full capacity will be available to you!

However, if you are aware of my policy regarding anonymity, then send me your full name, your company affiliation, and your location!
