There may be a better forum for this question, but here is my problem:
I want to relocate a sprinkler valve along the pipe about 50 feet without trenching up the grass to put in a wire. I am looking for some kind of radio transmitter or repeater to attach to the 24V AC signal coming from the sprinkler timer and a receiver to control the solenoid at the new valve box. I feel like this should be a relatively simple problem with an off the shelf solution, but I cannot find anything online. Of course there are plenty of radio transceiver chips that we could use, but that feels overcomplicated. There are also plenty of $300+ solutions that we also don't want to invest in for a simple "on/off" signal.
Here are some more details/specifications:
- There is 240V run out to the shed next to the new valve location that we could use.
- I know of "Hunter Node" systems and lots of others like it, but most of these seem to be 1 zone sprinkler timers, allowing you to set schedules etc. We want to keep the signal from the Rachio 3 sprinkler timer to preserve weather skip features and phone control.
- We could use Arduinos with radio modules/chips to solve this, but I feel like there shouldn't be a need to digitize anything or run it off of a microchip. I just need one trigger signal!
- I found someone who had repurposed garage door opener chips to solve this problem, we could do that, but again, I am just wondering if anyone here knows of an easier solution.
- I also got pretty close with a door opening button retrofit system from BEA. That is what I'm looking for, a simple 1 way transmitter and receiver to extend a signal without running a cable. Because that is a commercial solution, their pricing was above what we are willing to pay, and it seemed like it would require tinkering to get working anyway.
Please ask for any other clarification that you want. I am open to other solutions that anyone can come up with too! Any help is greatly appreciated.
