I need to convert a 50 - 200 mA DC analog signal to 0-10 VDC. Are there any COTS signal conditioners that can do this? I can't find one that will accept 200 mA input.

 

Easy - assuming this is a dc circuit and you'd like an isolated dc output - put a low value resistor in the 200mA circuit - say 10ohms - and at 200mA you'll see 2V - or if you'd rather use another resistor and/or you'd like a suggestion for an isolated voltage converter, email me - albalcombe [at] gmail [dot] com.

 

If you can put a 50 ohm resistor in series with your 50 - 200 mA current loop, then you would measure 2.5 to 10 volts across the resistor.  Then use a signal conditioner with voltage in to voltage out. Many signal conditioners will allow you to adjust the offset and gain to convert 2.5 to 10 volts to 0 to 10 volts.

 

The API 4300 G spec sheet says it has an input range up to 900mAdc and a selection of conventional outputs like 0-10Vdc.

How bout a 50 ohm resistor. And tell your boss you are using a live zero.

That would give you 2.5 - 10 V, very simply and inexpensively. And you can easily scale the input if you are working with a PLC. A 5 Watt precision resistor is easy to come by and nearly foolproof.
