tarball vs. CVS

Hello,

I was reading through some old e-mail, and came across a discussion of whether or not CVS is keeping people away from the project...

So, would it be useful to also have a downloadable tarball of the code, or is it not worth the trouble?

The tarball would be some 850 KB big, excluding the CIF driver.

I believe it would be useful.

I was hoping I could finish off the Modbus module, and then we could make a release, including a binary. Peter seems to have the auto* tools already geared up to create tarballs of a release. I think he was just ironing out a few details, like the unecessary linking of the dsp module to the gtk library.

Peter, any news on how this is coming along?

If I take too long to get the Modbus module back working, maybe we could make a temporary release without it...

Cheers,

Mario.

The box said it requires Windows 95 or better, so I installed Linux

I was thinking more along the lines of a "weekly tarball" of the source.

Not as useful as a release, but a lot less work, because it could be done automatically (the same way the website is updated from the CVS).

Yep, that would be nice to have.

Can you get it going?

Cheers,

Mario.
