Actuonix Introduces Panel-Mount Actuator for Direct-Contact Applications

The B-Series micro linear actuator offers up to 300 N of static force and interchangeable tips for push-action tasks such as blister puncturing and valve actuation.

Linear actuators convert electrical energy into linear motion. They are frequently used in place of pneumatic actuators to provide precise position control without the need for compressed air.

Actuonix is a supplier of electrical actuators and controllers, including stepper motor actuators, feedback actuators, rod actuators, and even LEGO actuators. Combining features from existing actuators, Actuonix has released the B-Series micro linear actuator. This new series features a panel-mount housing, a 10 mm stroke, and up to 300 N of static holding force.

The B-Series Panel-Mount Micro Actuator

The Actuonix B-Series is a DC-powered actuator that comes with mounting features integrated into the housing and accepts custom tips with the internal M8x0.5 thread on the output shaft.

The series is available in two sizes: the B12 (12 mm motor) and the B16 (16 mm motor). Each version is offered with a variety of different gear ratios. A lower gear ratio offers lower output force, while a higher gear ratio offers a higher output force.

Both models are powered by either a 6 VDC or 12 VDC power source, with an optional 24 VDC version of the B16 coming in the near future. The panel-mount features use M3 fasteners, which are included with the actuator, and can be mounted so that only the tip protrudes from the mounting surface.

Linear Actuator Control Options

Actuonix offers many options for controlling its actuators. The standard method is to use end-of-stroke limit switches or potentiometer position feedback. B-Series models can be configured for RC servo control (Option R), provided the system operates on 6 VDC. A stepper motor option will also be available at a later time.

Controlling your actuator will depend on the application and the option selected. If you are looking for accurate positioning, then the RC servo control might be best. If your application solely needs force, then the limit switch control option might work. Actuonix can also accommodate custom control options.

Custom Tip Options

The tip of the actuator helps execute the work that needs to be done. If your application is blister pack puncturing, you will want a sharp tip that can be replaced when it wears out. Button pushing or cycle testing equipment requires a blunt tip so as not to damage the surface of the button.

The B-Series micro actuators offer a threaded output shaft so that tips of various shapes and sizes can be quickly installed. The actuators can be shipped with or without a tip, and Actuonix can even help engineer a custom tip for your application.

Streamlined Direct-Contact Motion

An electrical actuator offers linear motion without the noise pollution of a compressed air actuator. Actuonix’s micro linear actuator with panel-mount features offers significant force in a small package. It can be installed without the body of the actuator protruding, creating a clean and secure installation.
