Beijer Electronics Replaces Ethernet Switch Series for Industrial Networking
Beijer Electronics has released a new series of industrial-grade unmanaged switches that will replace the company's existing JetNet 3008 series. The new series includes models that support fiber optic connections.
Beijer Electronics, commonly known for its HMI panels, SCADA systems, and cloud computing solutions, has recently replaced its existing JetNet 3008 series of Ethernet switches with the JetNet 2208 series. The new series of Ethernet switches is designed for industrial automation applications, such as connecting field I/Os, transmitters, HMIs, and PLCs. The 2208 series is available in three models, all featuring eight ports to connect multiple devices to an industrial network.

JetNet 2208-T8
The JetNet 2208-T8 model features eight 10/100 base TX ports with MDI/MDI-X, a compact IP30 metal housing, and supports 12/24/48 VDC power with operating temperatures of -40 to 75 °C. The T8 model is unmanaged, so no complex configuration is required.
JetNet 2208-T7-SC1-MM
If your applications require longer distances between switches, the JetNet 2208-T7-SC1-MM might fulfill your needs. The T7 model consists of the same compact, rugged housing as the T8 model, only the ports use 100 base-FX fiber transmission lines, allowing cable lengths up to 2000 m. The SC1-MM model is a multimode switch that supports using larger multimode fiber optic cables and has multiple light channels. Similar to the T8 model, the SC1-MM is an unmanaged switch.

JetNet 2208-T7-SC1-SM
If your application requires high-bandwidth and low attenuation connectivity, the 2208-SC1-SM is the same as the SC1-MM, but only in single-mode fiber connection. You get the same eight fiber optic ports to support fast Ethernet connection, only with the SM model you can take advantage of the single-mode cable, which allows for high speed and high bandwidth over a long distance.
High-Speed Communication in Automation
With machine learning becoming a popular option being added to new and existing equipment, communications to equipment on the factory floor and data centers are required to transmit more data at faster rates. Products such as Beijer Electronics’ 2208 series fast Ethernet switches can help make these connections. The T7 model with the fiber optic connection allows data centers to be located far from the factory floor without losing transmission speeds. Having a solid, fast communication connection to equipment allows users to view data in real time as it is collected. This data can then be analyzed to determine maintenance schedules and machine efficiencies.

High-Speed Communications for Field I/O
Devices in the field, such as I/O blocks, servo drives, and vision systems, can require a high-speed communication path back to the control system. A proper industrial Ethernet switch allows for these high-speed communications, and using fiber optic cables increases the distance the devices can be from the controller. Vision systems are known for being bandwidth hogs and often require special switches for transmitting live video feeds. The new JetNet 2208 series from Beijer Electronics enables industry-leading technology to communicate with both operation technology and information technology.
