Crouzet Launches New Millenium PLC with Expanded Features

The New Millenium PLC from Crouzet adds Ethernet, Modbus RS-485, scalable I/O, and easier software upgrades from Millenium 3.

Crouzet has introduced the New Millenium PLC, an upgraded successor to the Millenium 3 that adds expanded connectivity, improved display capabilities, and simplified migration. The controller features built-in Ethernet, Modbus RS-485, SD card support, and scalable expansion up to 60 I/O points. Display models offer enhanced multi-color text visibility, while Crouzet Soft streamlines programming and legacy code conversion. Designed for both new installations and upgrades, the New Millenium delivers greater flexibility without increasing system complexity.

The New Millenium

There are several connectivity options on this newest controller. The New Millenium features a built-in Ethernet port, meaning there is no need to buy an additional communication module. The Ethernet connection enables interfacing with a web server, allowing operators to access the PLC remotely. It also has a Modbus RS-485 connection and an SD card interface. The SD card increases storage space or makes it easy to load new programs into the controller.

This series of controllers features a variety of options. Display or displayless options offer design flexibility while reducing initial costs. Each controller has eight input channels that can be ordered as eight digital channels or a mix of four high-speed digital and four digital/analog (4-20 mA) channels. Output channels are available as 8 A relay controls or PWM, depending on the specific model. Also, the controller is available in 12-24 V DC, 24V DC, and 110-230 V AC power options, making it easy to integrate with virtually any existing system. Furthermore, this system is scalable, handling expansion modules for up to 60 I/O ports.

For models with a display, the New Millenium features an enhanced display over the Millenium 3. It can display six lines of 24-character text (over four lines of 18-character text) in three colors (over the monochrome display of the Millenium 3). The ability to display in three colors with more characters is a real advantage in challenging lighting situations often found in industry.

Upgrading Software

These PLCs are interfaced using the latest version of Crouzet Soft. In terms of software, Crouzet provides a four-step process for upgrading from the Millenium 3 Soft to the new Crouzet Soft. This simple guide is also available as a video. In this process, legacy code can be quickly adapted to the new controller; in some cases, it only requires updating the I/O configuration.

Speaking of software and programming, Crouzet Soft makes programming simple. In some cases, manual programming is unnecessary, as there are over 2000 function blocks already built into the software’s library that can be deployed quickly. Programs can be transferred between a laptop and controllers via SD card or Ethernet cable. The programs can be written as additional function blocks or as ladder logic.

Potential Markets

The New Millenium can be used in both new automation systems, as well as for upgrading existing PLCs. The upgrade from the Crouzet Millenium 3 to the New Millenium is painless, thanks to their online guidance. The ability to communicate without a separate module minimizes its footprint in the control cabinet, a distinct advantage for all machine and automation designers.
