Doosan Robotics Showcases Latest Series of Cobots at Automate 2024

May 09, 2024 by Austin Futrell

Doosan Robotics introduced its latest lineup of collaborative robots, the P-Series, at Automate 2024 this week. The P-Series features the highest payload and longest reach of any Doosan Robotics cobot.

At the Automate 2024 trade show in Chicago (May 6-9), Doosan Robotics unveiled a brand-new series of collaborative robots, the Prime-Series (P-Series). This series of cobots is designed specifically for palletizing operations by removing one axis typically unused for palletizing motions to optimize performance and reduce singularity issues.

Prime-Series Cobots

Doosan Robotics' new P-Series was launched with the release of the P3020 cobot, which stands out with its high payload capacity of 30 kg and long reach of 2,030 mm. The new series’ payload and reach capability are the highest of any Doosan cobot and match an industrial robot's working capacity without the need to meet several additional safety compliances.

One of the P3020's defining features is its commitment to efficiency and sustainability. This cobot achieves lower power consumption through a gravity compensation mechanism, aligning with demands for eco-friendly automation solutions. Moreover, its wrist-singularity-free design ensures smooth and precise movements, enhancing operational reliability and reducing downtime.

Robot Singularities

Robot singularity refers to a configuration in which a robotic arm loses one or more degrees of freedom, restricting its ability to move in specific directions. Singularity occurs due to geometric constraints in the robot's kinematics, particularly in the relationship between joint positions and the end-effector's position and orientation. The singularity fault can lead to challenges in motion planning and execution.

Cobot Kinematic Optimization

In a strategic kinematic optimization move, the P-Series introduces a 5-degree-of-freedom movement and eliminates the conventional 4th axis. The speed of the 6th axis has also been substantially increased to 360 degrees per second, ensuring rapid and agile performance across a wide range of tasks. This design ensures high-performance operation and improved cobot versatility.

A Palletization Cobot

Doosan Robotics' design prioritizes safety, and the P3020 is a testament to this commitment. It achieves the highest PL (e) and Cat 4 safety ratings, providing operators peace of mind by adhering to rigorous safety standards.

As industries evolve and embrace automation, the P3020 represents a step forward in Doosan’s collaborative robotic offerings. With its palletizing capabilities within the collaborative robot industry and its focus on efficiency, sustainability, and safety, the P3020 sets a new standard for Doosan cobot performance. It is designed to transform warehouse operations and pave the way for a future where human-robot collaboration is both efficient and profitable.
