Emerson Collaborates With SungEel HiTech to Advance EV Battery Recycling

December 28, 2023 by Bob Odhiambo

Emerson has partnered with Korea's leading EV lithium-ion battery recycler to establish a battery recycling plant. The plant will utilize Emerson's automation technology to enhance process efficiency in recycling.

Emerson, a company known for providing innovative industrial automation technology and software, has formed a partnership with SungEel HiTech. SungEel HiTech is a Korean company that specializes in electric vehicle (EV) lithium-ion battery recycling.

The partnership between the two companies aims to create a strong resource cycle to help stabilize the supply of EV battery materials and increase overall global production capacity. It will combine SungEel HiTech's battery recycling techniques and Emerson's process automation technology.

Emerson and SungEel HiTech Collaborate

SungEel HiTech's battery recycling operations can be found in nine locations worldwide. SungEel HiTech and Emerson's newly established lithium-ion battery recycling plant will be one of three plants at SungEel HiTech's Hydro Center complex in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do.

The Hydro Center's other plants include a hydrometallurgical battery material production facility and a collection and pretreatment recycling park. The third recycling plant will be three times larger than the previous two—large enough to produce enough raw materials to power approximately 400,000 EVs annually.

Emerson is tasked to provide the new SungEel HiTech plant with advanced valve and instrumentation solutions for reliability, accuracy, and performance. A range of level, flow, pH, and pressure sensors, robust control valves, and transmitters will be included in the package to provide a more sustainable and safe operation.
