The CA12 sensors are engineered to meet the demanding requirements of industrial automation. They excel in applications where consistent and accurate sensing performance is important, providing a reliable solution for monitoring and logging tasks.

This newest sensor series from Carlo Gavazzi is designed with housings made from PBT, robust AISI 316L stainless steel, or PEEK (a chemical-resistant thermoplastic). These materials have a smooth exterior that prevents dust and liquid build-up. Each type of housing material brings distinct benefits, including durability and resistance to dust and liquids, ensuring efficient performance in challenging conditions.

Technical Features of the CA12 Sensor Series

  • Selectable sensing distance and hysteresis for customization
  • Sensing modes include single-point, two-point, and windows mode
  • Logic functions include AND, OR, XOR, and "gated SR/FF"
  • Timer functions include on-delay, off-delay, and one-shot
  • Configurable output/input options: NPN, PNP, push-pull, and external input
  • Logging functions for temperatures, operational hours, power cycles, and configuration changes
  • Two separate switching signal channels are available

IO-Link Capabilities of the CA12 Sensors

In addition to their durable construction, these sensors are equipped with advanced features with IO-Link communication. IO-Link enables them to go beyond essential sensing functions, offering modes like Quality of Run (QoR), Quality of Teach (QoT), and diagnostic parameters. These capabilities empower users to fine-tune sensor performance and troubleshoot effectively, enhancing overall system efficiency.

The sensors provide valuable insights for predictive maintenance through temperature and dust alarms. These alarms notify users of potential issues early on, reducing downtime and maximizing application uptime by addressing problems proactively.

Furthermore, the integration of IO-Link communication allows for full programmability and customization.

Analog Output Feature of the CA12 Sensors

In IO-Link mode, the sensor can generate a 16-bit variable process data output, which accurately represents the dielectric value measured by the sensor. This means the sensor can provide detailed information about the dielectric properties of the objects it detects.

The dielectric value of a substance describes its capability to retain electrical energy within an electric field. This feature is helpful in applications where precise material identification or quality control is essential, which is why the sensors are suitable for semiconductor manufacturing or product inspection processes.

Future Sensor Outlook

Torben Rochat, International Product Manager, highlights that the CA12...IO sensors mark Carlo Gavazzi's commitment to Industry 4.0, as they introduce a dependable range of IO-Link capacitive sensors, solidifying their position in the market.

Developed in Denmark, these sensors offer accurate object detection for diverse applications, including semiconductors, printing, solar panels, and electronics manufacturing.
