Google Cloud’s AI Platform Meets the Industrial Sector
The Honeywell-Google Cloud partnership will combine Gemini's multimodal and natural language features on Google Cloud's Vertex AI platform with the vast data set from Honeywell Forge, an IoT platform for the industrial sector. The collaboration hopes to fix several pressing issues in the industrial sector, a main concern being skilled labor shortages. In addition, the solution aims to reduce maintenance costs and improve overall operational productivity.
Using AI to Alleviate Labor Shortages
According to Honeywell's 2024 Industrial AI Insights report, over 80% of industrial AI leaders consider their companies to be early adopters of AI, though only 17% have fully implemented their AI strategies. Additionally, many baby boomer workers intend to retire in the upcoming years. This means the industrial sector will soon face additional pressure from labor shortages and skills gaps. AI can help address these challenges by increasing current employees' impact by giving them a more powerful toolset to work with.
Honeywell and Google Cloud aim to provide users with an easy-to-use solution that focuses on upskilling current employees. This partnership will introduce AI agents that enhance current operations and support the workforce, driving greater AI adoption and enabling companies to take full advantage of increasing automation.

AI-Powered Automation
Honeywell and Google Cloud’s solution focuses on leveraging Google Cloud's Vertex AI Search, customized to engineers' needs. These new AI-powered agents will automate tasks and shorten project design timelines, allowing users to focus on innovation and deliver superior customer experiences.
Additional agents will use Google’s large language models (LLMs) to help technicians resolve maintenance issues more efficiently. For example, with the solution, users could quickly answer questions such as "How did a unit perform last night?" or "How do I replace the input/output module?". These agents will also take advantage of Gemini's multimodal capabilities, enabling users to process and analyze various types of data, giving engineers fast, comprehensive answers that can go beyond basic chat or predictive tools.
Chairman and CEO of Honeywell, Vimal Kapur, explained that achieving autonomy relies on optimizing assets, empowering people, and streamlining processes. By integrating Google Cloud’s AI technology with Honeywell's extensive industry knowledge and valuable data from the Honeywell Forge platform, customers will gain unique insights that connect the physical and digital worlds. The partnership hopes to accelerate the shift toward autonomous operations, a central driver of Honeywell's growth. The new solution will be available to Honeywell customers beginning in 2025.
