Invertek Drives Expands Optidrive Coolvert Lineup With New Frame Size and Safety Features

At Chillventa 2024, Invertek Drives announced updates to its Optidrive Coolvert high-performance drives. Series updates include a new, larger frame size and enhanced safety features.

Invertek Drives, a global manufacturer of variable frequency drives (VFDs) for a variety of industries, has upgraded its Optidrive Coolvert series of high-performance drives specifically designed and manufactured for brushless DC (BLDC) compressors, heat pumps, and cooling distribution units (CDUs). The Coolvert lineup previously only had Frame Sizes 2, 3, and 4. It will now include a size 5 for customers. The entire line has also been updated to meet the latest industry standards in safety.

Optidrive Coolvert High-Performance Drives

In the HVAC-R industry, safety and compliance require equipment manufacturers to undergo stringent testing. Invertek's OptiDrive Coolvert high-performance drives have obtained full approval for use with A2L and A3 refrigerants, the most up-to-date safety standards. The Coolvert series is also tailored to meet the cooling industry's requirements for BLDC compressors, heat pumps, and CDUs. 

The Coolvert series offers sensorless vector control for various motor types including IE2, IE3, IE4, and IE5 induction, AC permanent magnet, BLDC, synchronous reluctance, and line start PM motors. The drive has an installation time of under 15 minutes. Additionally, the Coolvert drives are designed to be compact and feature through panel mounting, minimizing panel space. This allows for using a smaller cabinet while effectively dissipating heat with chilled air. As a result, the Optidrive Coolver maintains an IP20-rated front enclosure and offers an IP55-rated rear cold plate option.

HVAC-R VFD Solutions

The upcoming Coolvert series will include advanced safety features and be certified to meet IEC 60730 standards for frames 3, 4, and 5. Certification for frame size 2 is forthcoming. The series will feature Class B software for locked rotor protection, input and output phase loss, and overcurrent protection. Additionally, the drives will comply with lower harmonics standards, meeting EN 61000-3-2 for 1-phase input drives and EN 610003-12 for 3-phase input drives up to 75 amps.

The Optidrive Coolvert is designed with an advanced open connectivity feature that enables seamless integration with any controller. It also provides support for Modbus RTU (RS485) communication through pluggable terminals. For users who prefer a simpler system, the drive offers pluggable terminal control, allowing for digital input start and stop, analog input for speed reference and PI feedback, and real-time output for status indication. Additionally, users can opt to use an Optipad remote keypad with a TFT display for added convenience.
