Advanced Motion Sensing: The EP3751-0260 with EtherCAT Capabilities.

The EP3751-0260 consolidates multiple previously discrete devices into a compact unit measuring a mere 30 x 86 x 22 mm. Integrating an acceleration sensor with an inertial measurement unit (IMU), specifically a MEMS gyroscope and accelerometer, this device offers high precision in detecting shock, vibration, and tilt. By merging these functions into a single housing, the EP3751-0260 simplifies installation and enhances data coherence in critical applications requiring constant monitoring.

Beckhoff employs EtherCAT technology in the EP3751-0260 module, which features a high-resolution, three-axis accelerometer offering 20-bit resolution across selectable measurement ranges of ±2 g, ±4 g, and ±8 g. With a sampling frequency of 4 kHz, this module is well-suited for low-frequency monitoring applications that require minimal noise interference. Its capabilities make it ideal for structural health monitoring in infrastructure such as bridges and buildings, as well as in robotics and industrial condition monitoring scenarios, including machine condition monitoring during building operations.

Beckhoff has also improved functionality compared to separate units. The integrated three-axis MEMS gyroscope enables the detection of complex rotational movements, enhancing potential applications across various industries. With EtherCAT connectivity, data transmission occurs with virtually no delay, allowing real-time processing through software like TwinCAT Analytics. Both raw and pre-processed sensor data can be transmitted based on user requirements, facilitating tailored analytical processes that yield actionable insights for engineering and monitoring tasks. Beckhoff has also provided a plethora of cabling options for the EtherCAT box modules, sensors, and power cables to minimize in-field wiring of their systems.

The Beckhoff EP3751-0260 EtherCAT box integrates a machine-mountable acceleration sensor and IMU in a compact IP67-rated housing and conforms to EN 60068-2-6, EN 60068-2-27, and EN 61000-6-4. This enables precise detection of motion parameters like shock and vibration with delay-free transmission to the measuring system and replaces multiple separate devices, minimizing overall space, wiring, and system cost. The EP3751-0260 processes and delivers both raw and pre-processed data utilizing Beckhoff’s TwinCat Analytics Software. Expect to see EP3751-0260 from Beckhoff in the 4th quarter of 2024.
