New Industrial Suite from Eaton Enables Remote Monitoring in Hazardous Environments

December 08, 2020 by Robin Mitchell

Recently, Eaton released its latest industrial suite, Brightlayer, to allow for remote monitoring of industrial assets.

Brightlayer Industrial Suite Remote Monitoring Application

The Brightlayer Industrial Suite Remote Monitoring Application is an industrial software suite that provides site managers and workers the ability to remotely monitor assets. The software suite integrates several other tools to work with various industrial solutions, provide predictive maintenance, and improve safety.

The software suite promises to be applicable to a wide range of different industrial processes. The suite is suitable for dangerous and hazardous environments such as oil, gas, and mining which pose the greatest threat to assets and employees alike.

The new software platform by Eaton is now available to customers and local teams globally.

Main Features of the Suite

The suite provides tools found in many cloud IoT and IIoT platforms. This can include real-time data monitoring, improved security, and the ability to operate with a wide range of different industrial protocols.

The ability to read data from assets in real-time allows engineers to improve decision-making and enables users to react to sudden changes. The remote nature of the suite, combined with real-time monitoring, aims to improve safety. It removes the need for site workers to monitor assets in person or within the local network.

Real-time data monitoring also allows the suite to log all historic data. While this provides engineers with the ability to read and study such data, its value actually lies in predictive maintenance through the use of AI.

Predictive maintenance allows the suite to detect anomalies in assets that may indicate a gradual failure in operation, and once detected can be appropriately planned for.

Combining all assets and sensors into a single platform with clear location identifiers allows for all sensors to receive equal attention, and no sensor is neglected. Such a platform helps site workers keep track of all sensors installed, even those that may be mounted in the most peculiar places.

The suite is designed for easy integration and works with a wide range of standard industrial protocols. Due to this, it can work with most industrial equipment. This suite is designed for wireless IoT devices. Users can maximize this suite because they can install it into sites that require no conduit or cable trays for running hard-wired communication cables.

The Importance of Remote Monitoring Systems

The use of IoT platforms is steadily increasing, and many industrial companies are seeing the benefits. One of the most significant advantages of remote monitoring is the additional safety provided. This additional safety can remove the need for site workers to monitor assets and take measurements, which keeps them away from potentially dangerous areas.

Remote monitoring also allows users to gather data at a single source that can be accessed by a large group of users. The remote nature of this data allows for these workers to be anywhere in the world. A large number of simultaneous users allows for large scale data analysis.

Moving this data to the cloud also allows for applications and other systems to access this data without the need to be physically present on the LAN or other networks used on site.

The ability to stream sensory data into AI systems not only allows for such AI detect anomalies, but it also allows for these AI’s to improve their performance as they are continually fed new information.

With its new industrial suite, Eaton aims to improve remote monitoring applications.
