Siemens and AWS Open Up Access to Generative AI in Software Development

January 26, 2024 by Damond Goodwin

Siemens and Amazon Web Services have been partners for over 10 years, and their latest collaboration aims to alleviate the strain of the skilled labor shortage through the use of generative AI.

As skilled labor shortages continue to plague automation and tech industries, Siemens and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are working together to make generative AI in software development more accessible to companies.

Siemens and AWS Collaboration

To help bring the benefits of generative AI to new and existing customers, Siemens and AWS are integrating Amazon Bedrock into Mendix, a low-code development platform part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. Amazon Bedrock uses a single API to create high-performing foundation models from leading AI companies. The service also includes security, privacy, and responsible AI capabilities.

By integrating Amazon Bedrock into Mendix, businesses will be able to create scalable applications using AI. The software will allow customers to select the generative AI model that best fits their needs to make development faster, simpler, and easier. The model can then be quickly and easily integrated into current processes to realize implemented changes quickly. Both new and existing applications can be made or mended using the new system, allowing domain experts free range to create or retrofit applications as needed.

Mendix-Amazon Bedrock Integration

The partnership between Siemens and AWS hopes to accelerate innovation by circumventing traditional bottlenecks created by the skilled labor shortage. In the past, developers who wanted to use generative AI would have had to gain access and have the appropriate credentials.

In addition, developers needed the capability and skilled labor to write the specialized code necessary to utilize the technology. With the Mendix-Amazon Bedrock integration, developers can avoid such costly and time-consuming problems by giving users access to the benefits of AI generation without the effort of dedicated coders and credentials.

AI-powered Software Development

The Mendix-Amazon Bedrock integration includes a graphical interface that gives users without programming knowledge access to drag-and-drop commands. In addition, factory workers can use it to find documentation and information faster than ever before, eliminating the need for tedious manual and documentation searching.

The production department can use the system to implement plant changes to see an increase in yields, equipment adjustments, maintenance, or even spare parts records. The technology can even analyze technical or legal documents, translate content into different languages, and recognize images when necessary.
