June 07, 2024 by Seth Price

Teradyne Robotics has opened a 20,000 sq m headquarters in Odense, Denmark. The new facility will enable collaboration between Teradyne's two companies, Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR).

Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) celebrated the grand opening of a new headquarters in Odense, Denmark, on May 14. These two companies are part of Teradyne Robotics and will occupy the new 20,000 sq m facility together, boosting collaboration between the organizations. Numerous companies in partnership with or part of Teradyne attended the grand opening, including NVIDIA and Siemens.

Robot Headquarters in Denmark

Construction on the new headquarters began in April 2022 and finished in May 2024. It will be the workplace for 550 employees and house multiple departments, including both organizations' research and development (R&D) departments. There are no manufacturing facilities on site, but there is a showroom for demonstrating robotic and automation equipment to prospective buyers and collaborators. Furthermore, it houses training facilities that will be used for teaching users how to install, program, and optimize robots for their production facilities.

Ujjwal Kumar, Group President of Teradyne Robotics, announced at the opening that “The launch of this new headquarters marks a significant milestone for Teradyne Robotics as we bring together these two leading companies in robotics innovation. We will now have the optimal environment to evolve our technological capabilities, which are already in high demand.”

Universal Robots

Since 2005, Universal Robots has been developing compact but versatile collaborative robots and robotic manipulators for various industries. The company’s latest collaborative robot, the UR-30, can handle 30 kg loads and reach 1300 mm while maintaining a compact footprint.

Of the collaboration, Universal Robots’ President Kim Povlsen added, “This beautiful building reflects our strong design philosophy and provides the perfect location for us to continue our mission to deliver automation to anyone, anywhere.”

Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR)

MiR is another Teradyne Robotics company focused on robotics and automation, particularly autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). MiR’s latest AMR is the MiR1200 Pallet Jack, which can detect, select, and navigate pallets of raw materials or products and move them safely through virtually any industrial environment. The MiR1200 can move 1200 kg, with a maximum speed of 1.5 m/s, and has a battery that will last throughout an entire shift. Armed with the latest AI assistance, the MiR1200 can increase throughput while significantly reducing transportation, picking, and packing times.

MiR's president, Jean-Pierre Hathout, also expressed excitement about the new headquarters, stating, "Our new headquarters is designed to foster innovation, providing the perfect setting for our teams to develop leading-edge solutions that will revolutionize automation."

Innovating Robotics

Universal Robots and MiR are both Teradyne Robotics' companies, and sharing a new headquarters will provide plenty of opportunities for cross-pollination between the organizations. Each group will benefit individually, pushing innovation throughout all parts of Teradyne Robotics' sphere of influence.
