Weidmuller Debuts Latest Timing Relays for Building and Factory Automation

December 11, 2020 by Robin Mitchell

Weidmuller, an industrial expert in electronics, automation, and control, recently announced its new range of timing relays, the TFI series.

What are Timing Relays?

A timing relay is a relay with a timer circuit whose output controls the electromagnetic coil. In a timer relay, the coil can be controlled in several different ways, including one-shots, delay, and a combination of both.

Timing relays are critical in applications where signals can either glitch or are too fast to read correctly. An external relay and controller board can be used, but these can be bulky and difficult to connect correctly.

The new range of relays provides a simple configuration with rotary switches. They are also compliant with multiple standards and carry a range of approvals applicable to a whole range of markets and applications.

The five relays in the series comprise different control voltages, timer functions, and output capabilities. These relays include the TFIS 12-240VUC 1CO M7C, TFIS 12-240VUC 1CO CG, TFIS 24-240VUC 1CO ON, TFIS 24-240VUC 1CO OFFC, and TFIS 12-240VUC 2NO SD.

A Breakdown of the Individual Relays

The first of these, the TFIS 12-240VUC 1CO M7C timing relay is compatible with control voltage inputs of 12V to 240V. This relay also has an output power rating of 240W with a maximum output current of 8A, and a minimum pulse duration of 100ms. The timing functions present on this relay include on delay, on-delay with control input, off-delay, single shot on the falling edge, and single shot on the rising edge.

The TFIS 12-240VUC 1CO CG timing relay works with control voltage inputs of 12V to 240V, has an output power rating of 240W with a maximum output current of 8A, and a minimum pulse duration of 100ms. The timing functions present on this relay include clock generator pause first and clock generator pulse first.

On another note, the TFIS 24-240VUC 1CO ON timing relay works with control voltage inputs of 24V to 240V, has an output power rating of 240W with a maximum output current of 8A, and a minimum pulse duration of 100ms. This relay has only a single timing function, and on delay.

The TFIS 24-240VUC 1CO OFFC timing relay works with control voltage inputs of 24V to 240V. This relay has an output power rating of 240W with a maximum output current of 8A, and a minimum pulse duration of 100ms. This relay has only a single timing function, an on delay, but can be conditioned with the control input.

One relay in specific, the TFIS 12-240VUC 2NO SD timing relay, works with control voltage inputs of 12V to 240V. It has an output power rating of 90W with a maximum output current of 3A, and a minimum pulse duration of 100ms. This relay has a star-delta start-up timer circuit.

In addition, the TFIS 12-240VUC 2NO SD, which has a maximum operating temperature of +60°C. The TFI Series of relays have an operating temperature range of -25°C to +55°C.

All relays also integrate an indicator LED to indicate its current status whether it has detected a signal, or if power is applied. All relays, except the TFIS 12-240VUC 2NO SD, have single throw double pole outputs (both NC and NO contacts), whereas the TFIS 12-240VUC 2NO SD has two output switches both in the same configuration (NO).

All five relays carry a range of classifications including ETIM 6.0, eClass 9-0, eClass 10.0, ERIM7.0, and eClass 9.1. All five relays also carry CE and UL approvals making them applicable in a wide range of different industries, and their RoHS conformity makes them applicable in the EU market.
