The future of Quadlog

Hello there, i am a little bit confused of the future of Siemens-Moore Quadlog safety system. From some sources i heard that the development of Quadlog will be stopped by end of this year because Siemens wants to promote its S7-400F safety system, which is part of its Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) platform. In my opinion, even if Siemens is going to stop the development of Quadlog, i am sure that Quadlog will not disappear from the market so soon, like what happened with TI (Texas Instruments) system. I think that the life cycle time in the process industries is slighly higher than in the factory automation.
What do you think of the future of Quadlog system?. Thanks a lot.

I used to work for Moore about 12 years ago. I still have some good friends there. Siemens has gutted what I consider to be the best system out there. Personnel is down from over 1200 to under 500 with more cuts on the way. I have attended user's groups and talked to some of the Siemens architects for the new offerings. It is all going S7. I consider the long term viability of all things Moore to be very slight. I would look to Siemens to provide firm obsolesence dates and firm support until dates. Good Luck

Hi ray,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I agree with you that in the future all will be SIMATIC S7. What i am afraid of is that soon i will not get any technical support from Springhouse anymore, which is quite difficult for a Quadlog beginner like me.

Siemens is committed to supporting QUADLOG for the long term. We understand that it is full-featured, proven and well respected product in the process safety market and fully expect QUADLOG to continue to be key part of our process safety offering for many years to come. We've actually experienced record sales volumes for QUADLOG in the last year.

However, Siemens also has new process safety technology in the SIMATIC S7-F/FH system. This puts Siemens in the enviable position to be able to extend the life of a proven product by applying new technology, while at the same time being able to integrate proven features into the new technology.

In response to this Siemens has established a process safety development center in Spring House, PA, USA (The former Moore facility) where development for both QUADLOG as well as the SIMATIC S7-F/FH system have been combined into one group. This group's entire focus is to develop and enhance Siemens process safety systems.

Current developments for QUADLOG include an enhanced CCM+ controller, an ethernet gateway, and a faceplate for visualization of the Safety Matrix in the HMI (the Safety Matrix is Siemens patented & TUV approved tool that automatically configures, monitors and maintains QUADLOG from a cause & effect diagram).

Current developments for S7-F/FH include several new failsafe I/O modules, integration of the Safety Matrix, and several other programming and wiring enhancements.

Siemens is investing millions of dollars each year into process safety product development (not to mention similar amounts in machine safety product development). Our goal is to leverage out technology across all of our product lines, making each of them better. Furthermore, our goal is to continue to drive towards tight integration of all of our automation products as part of Siemens Totally Integrated Automation.

Contrary to what some people are saying, the investments companies have made and continue to make in QUADLOG are not in jeapardy. We will support, enhance and evolve QUADLOG as we continue to grow our leadership position in process safety.

I would like to invite you to attend the next Siemens Process Automation User Community annual conference in Baltimore, MD, October 8-10, 2003. We will be conducting multiple sessions on process safety including an overview of our product roadmap and a showcase where there will be demonstrations of our new developments.
