Greetings,

We have a 1500 DST DeltaV system. We used 1200 DST.
The 1500 DST were distributed into four controllers.
We did a controller upgrade to version 5 and a
software upgrade from version 4.x to version 6.x.
The question is: How do we have to distribute the 1500
DST?

I am a little confused. Shouldn't the whole system be at the same rev level?

By version 6 - possibly even in version 5 - "DST's" became one big bank for the system. You didn't need to distribute them any more. At least,
the licenses for IO i.e. AI, AO, DI, DO, etc. was "shared" across the system. Operator interface nodes are typically sized for the whole system.

Hi, I did some checking on this. Here's what I found:

In DeltaV v4.x software, the controller software was licensed with one license per hardware controller. Each license defined the controller type (i.e., Batch, Regulatory, Sequence, Calculation and Data Acquisition) and its DST size that can be between 25 and 500 DSTs.

In v6.x, the licensing was simplified by moving away from a license for each hardware controller and introducing a single system-wide control license. The system-wide control license has a size that must be equal to, or greater than, the total DSTs used in all the hardware controllers in the system.

With v6.x software, it is no longer necessary to segment DSTs into those for Regulatory controllers, Sequence Controllers, etc. The DSTs can be distributed however you want. The only restrictions are:

* Each hardware controller must not exceed a maximum of 500 DSTs, and

* The total DSTs in all controllers must not exceed the size of the system-wide control license.
