I want to reach an Allen Bradley PLC remotely by using a modem. But I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a "suggested" brand. I preffer a "standard" modem like US Robotics. The only problem is I could not find out the proper init string.

Anybody there who found out that?

There are probably lots of people on the list who have found the proper
init string for their modem. Anyone with a little patience can do it.
The unfortunate thing is that this solution may only work with your
current modem. Go buy a new one next month and the procedures may be
different.

This is one of the reasons that the "suggested" brand modems are priced
where they are. Their configuration is either factory preset or at least
is the same for all models that you may buy in the future.

I believe AB's app note on this application has instructions for a standard PC modem from either Hayes or USR, I can't remember which. But I followed the instructions, which I think included the init string and it worked OK.

you're right !

the main advantage of Allen-Bradley's modem, is that they come with an "embedded" DF1 protocol chipset ! don't have to worry about init string !

also, they can be remotely configured !
