Breaking: 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Eastern Taiwan

April 03, 2024 by David Peterson

The largest earthquake in 25 years hit Taiwan around 8:00 local time on Wednesday, April 3rd. Emergency response reports loss of life and major impacts to infrastructure and industry.

Following a major earthquake in Taiwan, emergency providers have been scrambling to rescue as many as 900 people trapped by slides and infrastructure damage. As of 9:00 am PST, nine fatalities have been recorded. Tsunami warnings for both the Philippines and Japan, which were activated as precautionary measures, have been lifted.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and the rescue teams, as well as to those who hopefully will be retrieved safely.

Taiwan: Global HQ for Industrial Automation

Taiwan houses many companies and manufacturing facilities for automated machinery and for the components used in many industrial automation products, and the impacts of this event may have far-reaching impacts.

A few notable manufacturers, well-known throughout the world of industrial automation, are headquartered in Taiwan for global operations, providing collaborative and industrial robots, motion control components, I/O controllers, PLCs, and data networking devices.

On behalf of Control.com and EETech Group, we wish to express gratitude for the tireless work of emergency providers and a safe recovery to those affected by the events in Taiwan.
