I have a question to the industry experts of this forum.

We plan to have an Additional Process Utility unit to support the upcoming Sulphur Recovery Unit. A couple of Boiler plants are planned. With each boiler wud come a stack.

My experience with the stacks of existing boilers has been horrible, to say the least, as each one is about 20-30m high and we have Sampling systems for Flue Gas Analysers and Opacity Monitors placed high above. As these instruments require frequent maintenance, it becomes painful to climb steep 'monkey' ladders on so many of these stacks so many times.

My question is, is there an industry practice where an elevator can be commissioned with each stack? Is such a practice used anywhere? I work for a CPP in a Oil n Gas Processing Facility so naturally all safety norms for harzardous area classifications will have to be applicable too.

Hi Ritika,
I have never come across an elevator used on a stack. The most convenient I have come across have staircases instead of 'cat' ladders, but ladders upto the sample port staging are the most common.

Many stack analysers are mounted at ground level in a nice air conditioned analyser house with temperature controlled heated sample lines connecting them to the stack.

Will be interested to hear what others have come across.
