I am comparing the two upgrades:

1)Mark V <I> to HMI
2) Mark V to Ve.

If I can get most of the benefits with first option, why should I go for second upgrade?

Can anyone help me to make correct comparison and the right decision.

 

I believe you've answered your own question, haven't you?

You didn't say what kind of unit(s) your site has or what the reasons for upgrading are. It's really difficult to make a recommendation if you don't tell us why you'd be considering either and what kind of machines you're considering them for and any other relevant information and circumstances.

The only real reason to go for the Mark Ve upgrade is if you need extra compute horsepower and/or I/O capability *and* you can't afford for the unit to be out of service long enough to get a full turbine control panel replacement. The Mark V is a fine control system, and will be so for many years to come. For most units, it's perfectly adequate.

So, some F-class units can benefit from a Mark Ve upgrade if they are buying performance enhancements or new options (like Wide Wobbe Index control, etc.).

But, save your money if you don't need extra compute horsepower or I/O expansion *and* you have a need to get these abilities without a long shutdown for a normal turbine control replacement, and just go for the GE Mark V HMI upgrade.

think again if u're planning to upgrade from <I> to <HMI>. u can get better priced solution w/ A LOT more features with 3rd party HMI for Mark V eg. GCI from Global Controls, TMOS from ITS and IBECS from CSE Engineering.

The 3 above, can talk DIRECTLY to your Mark V panel.

stop wasting your money on GE <HMI>.

upgrading to Mark Ve is different story since - as Mark Ve is already "half" of Mark VIe.

Mark Ve was introduced for customers who want to upgrade to Mark VIe but cannot afford long outage.
