Hello

Im very new to this opc thing in general, but i ended up with it by trying to find a way to connect to GE Mark Vie control system, i want a way to get the variables in the EGD so i can make an HMI for a specific task and the information i need is within the mark vie and i don't want to use cimplicity or any other GE software (i want to make it as free as possible).

so i searched the internet and asked known AI (chatgpt and gemini), any way the answer i get (as i understood) is to use opc to get the variables from the EGD, but the thing i don't know is how to connect the opc da client to the WorkstationST computer or whatever is should be connected to...
Im trying to use "MatrikonOPC Explorer" Windows software, but still not getting any step in the usefulness direction.

So what knowledge should i gather before diving in these things and am i in the right direction (using opc client ..etc)

Is there any method i can get the EDG variables? I know that EGD is only GE access thing, but i did some research anyway to get something and ended up with nothing but to use OPC da client.

If anyone knows anything about what im wanting to do even a single information might be easy/fundamental for you maybe it is rocket science for me.
Lastly, what information should i give you to make the situation more clear.
