I
We are using in our plant a Gould 984-380 controller + I/O modules (such as B824-016, B827-032, B875-101), which we bought in 1988. It has been connected to the main electricity supply (220 VAC 50 Hz) starting 1988 until now for most of the time. It has been used for, controlling process, from time to time. From the time it has been put in service we didn't have any problem or fault with this controller.
We are planning to continue the use of this controller and I/O modules. Our main concern, however, is the endurance, durability and reliability of the controller's and I/O modules' electronics.
We would like to have your opinion about continuing the use of this controller.
1. Does any one have records on Gould 984 controllers and I/O that are in service for such a long period?
2. Any history of controller and I/O modules faults?
3. Can somebody point out which components are likely to fail?
4 Is there a way to run some diagnostic that will enable to identify components that are on the edge of their life?
5. Are there is any reservation or obstacle in continuing the use of this controller and its I/O modules?
We would welcome any suggestions or comments and appreciate any help in this matter.
