Hi Sir, alarm in WorkstationST

@manoj1990108 j1990108,

Someone has been "playing" with the WorkstationST options and available columns of WorkstationST Alarm Viewer (I don't recall if that requires a password, or if it doesn't).

If the WorkstationST Alarm Viewer is displaying some alarms (possibly in "reverse order" (instead of newest at the top they clicked on the column heading and changed it to oldest at the top--very easy to do unintentionally)) then you should use the 'Help' feature of WorkstationST Alarm Viewer and search for "Live" (without the double quotation marks) to see if you can find some instructions on how to configure the live alarm display, or return it to the normal mode.

Sometimes just re-starting WorkstationST Alarm Viewer (or the HMI) will restore the typical display (unless someone made changes to get the display to some desired configuration and saved that configuration--see the 'Help' feature for more info on that option), if no one saved the changes they made.

But, without knowing what was happening with the live alarms vanished it's really difficult to say what might have happened, or how to Fix the issue. WorkstationST is a VERY powerful tool--but it has a steep learning curve and people rarely get the proper training on how to use even the basics.

You can take a CLEAR photo of the WorkstationST Alarm Viewer display (full screen if possible) and attach it to a response and someone may be able to give you other suggestions.

My first suggestion--without knowing what you have or have not already done to try to Fix the issue--would be to just restart the HMI. It WILL NOT trip the turbine. It WILL take a few minutes to get back to the typical configuration (operating/monitoring displays and open WorkstationST Alarm Viewer--and hopefully display live alarms).

If that doesn't work there is a WorkstationST icon in the MS-Windows System Tray at the lower right-hand corner of the monitor. Double-clicking on the icon usually opens a WorkstationST status window and if there are any red warning indications you can also take a CLEAR photo of that and post it to a response (along with the Alarm Viewer window). (You may have to right-click on the WorkstationST icon in the System Tray and then select 'Open' to open the status window.) There should be a toolbar near the top of the status window and there should be icons to Stop and Start WorkstationST (ALL functions of WorkstationST--DON'T WORRY, it won't trip the turbine, though there will be no live data on the operation/monitoring windows or the Alarm Viewer while it is stopped and for a minute or so after the start is initiated).

Those are some "detailed" descriptions--WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT YOU HAVE OR HAVE NOT DONE TO TRY TO Fix THE PROBLEM, OR WHAT WAS HAPPENING WHEN THE LIVE ALARMS DISAPPEARED. (I know; no one knows how or when they disappeared.... but I imagine someone does but won't speak up.) The next time you write for assistance with an issue--PLEASE tell us what you have or haven't done to try resolve the issue, and what was happening at the time the problem occurred (or just before the problem occurred). The Mark* HMI is a very complicated system--and getting more complicated all the time, unfortunately. Experts can't really provide any useful information (other than what was written) based on the information you provided--which was basically, nothing. Help us to help you! We're pretty certain you will be happy with the results if you do.

@manoj1990108,

So, as you can see someone (probably one of the editors of Control.com) has added some explanation of the subject of the ORIGINAL thread--problems getting live alarms to display in WorkstationST Alarm Viewer. And we provided some information even though we don't know much about the situation (live alarms not displaying in WorkstationST Alarm Viewer).

As you may find, one of the things which makes Control.com so useful is that people who write in for assistance or help or information usually provide some kind of feedback to let others who read these threads--now and in the future because they are all archived for reference at any time--know if the information was helpful and how they were able to resolve the problems. Knowing what works, and what doesn't, is very helpful for others reading and following the threads at Control.com--now as well as in the future.

SOOOO, can you tell us if the information provided was useful in getting live alarms to display in the WorkstationST Alarm Viewer at your site? Can you tell us what you did to restore live alarms to the WorkstationST Alarm Viewer?

Next, as was written above many people follow these threads now and in the future. And it helps if the threads don't drift too much from the original post which initiated the thread. Asking about changing the frequency of a turbine-generator (because we don't even know if it's a steam turbine or a gas turbine or and aircraft-derivative turbine driving the generator) is VERY different from the original post of this thread.

So, in keeping with the logic of keeping threads to mostly the same topic (which makes them easier to search using the magnifying glass icon at the top of the webpages!) please open a new thread to ask this question. Make the Subject be reflective of the question ("Help with understanding why my 60 Hz generator is running at 57 Hz") might be a good Subject--or something similar. Don't worry too much about the particular forum you post the thread in--but Power Generation is a VERY good choice (hint, hint). Tell us more about the equipment at your site--type of turbine the Mark* is controlling and protecting, version of Mark* at the installation. It will also be VERY IMPORTANT to know something about how the turbine-generator is connected--meaning, is it synchronized to a large area grid with many other generators, OR is it powering a local load by itself, or maybe just synchronized with one or two or three other generators and their prime movers? If you can tell us if the unit is operated in Droop Speed Control or Isochronous Speed Control that would also be very helpful (usually located on the "main" display). Finally, if the machine is synchronized to a grid with other machines (especially a large grid) can you tell us if the frequency of the grid (and of the machine at your installation) always runs at such a low frequency (95% of normal!), or if it just decreases that low occasionally (maybe even more often than it should), and is erratic--changing very quickly, sometimes high and other times low.

With this information we can probably help you understand what might be happening--but without it, there's not much we can do. The possible reasons why the machine frequency might be so low (96% of normal!) are numerous, and honestly this sounds like it's a regular occurrence, because there are protective relays which should be alarming and possibly even tripping the machine when it runs at or below 95% of rated frequency (to protect the turbine AND generator) and it doesn't sound like that's working or it has been "adjusted" which is kind of dangerous, actually.

So, tell us about the situation. If you have some graphs of the low-frequency operation (amount of load; load changes when the frequency is not normal; grid frequency (usually signal name SFL1 or sometimes SFL2); etc.) they would also be very helpful (you can attach CLEAR photographs of HMI displays, or photographs of Trender data (Trender is an extremely useful software tool in ToolboxST).

Anyway, please try to answer all the questions above in the new post with a relevant Subject and I believe you may be very happy with the information we can provide.
