PCs are fully capable of PLC replacement and are superior overall solution in many ways.

I don't think you will find any objective studies on this in the trade press. And the vendor studies will have obvious conclusions. Objective information is pretty much absent in automation and the trade press ratings tend to have a close correlation to the number of ad pages a
vendor buys. Since there are few PCA houses with large advertising budgets, PC automation goes largely without column inches or notice of any kind. For my part, PCs would do better in a large percentage of complex systems now done with PLCs.
