How to measure temperature on DC motor?

Does anyone know how to properly measure the temperature on a PMDC and BLDC motor?

Responding to F. Straat's query:

Temperature-rise above ambient is a very good way to determine a motor's output hp or kW. Measure the winding's dc resistance when the motor is
stopped in its normal ambient location. Then measure the resistance after the motor has been operated under typical load conditions. The
difference is then used to calculate the motor's output on-load!

A less accurate method, but one that is still useful is to measure the carcass temperature using a simple (but accurate) thermometer. Do an
Archives search for details.

If additional info is required, ask!
