I am looking for a manual about IEC(6)1131(.3)
When i'm looking on the internet there is only one thing: selling (frustrating MS capitalism)
Would anybody be so kind to notify me if he/she knows where to find it. I mean a manual about the functions in SFC, ST, IL etc., not about electricity standards or something.

Dear Eyso:

the reality is that the functions for implementation are choosed by the company-implementator. I.e. set of implemented functions depends on the products. The description of all IEC61131-3 functions are in the standard:
ftp://ftp.cle.ab.com/stds/iec/sc65bwg7tf3/html/news.htm
(see - Experimental HTML version)

Plus, the implementators may add something they think may improve the standard set of funcs.
I.e. in any case you have to deal with features of the product you choose.
etc.

Best regards,

There are 2 texts that I am aware of:

Hello,

Here is the answer <ftp://ftp.ab.com/stds/iec/sc65bwg7tf3/html/welcome.htm>
for the IEC1131-3.
On this site you can also find the IEC1131-5, the future 1131-7 and the future 1499.
You can try also to get information around IEC1131, using the Software And Automation Technology Search Engine at http://saatse.tripod.com and requesting for 1131.

Try the IEC (6)1131-3 book by R.J. Lewis (now in its second edition) published by the IEE in the United Kingdom. It is available through the IEE
via http://www.iee.org/ and through the IEEE in the US via http://www.ieee.org/. If you have money to burn, you can buy the standard itself from http://www.iec.ch/ it is really expensive and not very in-depth (and with only a few pages, not even enough for a book-end or door-stop when
you are done).

A little off topic, but be aware that any book you read on this standard will not tell you everything. It is a manufacturer's standard (just like the hydra fieldbus standard that is equally useless) not an end user's standard -- when it was originally released, amid much fanfare, we were supposed to be able to take programmes from one PLC and download them to
another with minimal conversion!!!!. Each PLC you use that is "61131-3 standard" is a standard only to itself. Try taking a Bosch PLC programme
and getting it into a Siemens PLC.

With that in mind, select your target PLC and read the vendors' own IEC publications. For example, if you are going with Siemens, get their
salesman to give you their IEC books. With R.J. Lewis in one hand and the Siemens book in the other, you will see the standard terminology translated to the Siemens-specific terminology (POUs, for example, are not called POUs by Siemens).

Have fun.

At www.iee.org I found an IEC 1131-3 manual. I have recently ordered it for my use, but can not comment on its quality or relevance.

Dear Len Klochek:

I am interested in the second reference, having studied the first. Can you give the purchasing details of the Jochen Perry book. If you can
direct me to a contents page too, that would be appreciated. I have Concept demo software and am now looking for information on applications
programming for standard communications blocks.
