Is it really matter the color code of twisted pair cables?

I'm gonna use a 8pin cable for usb3 connector. It's not color coded for usb cables. because it's an ethernet cable. but it should work right? i just should remember the order of wires where attached to both end of cable, right?? i mean, they are all same at width and height.so is it just about standards?

According to a statement in Serial Port Complete (pg 2 paper, 2nd Ed, 2007, by Jan Axelson), the "maximum distance between a USB device and its host is 16 ft, or 98 ft with five hubs."

There are commercial cables available for those lengths. Why not use a commercial cable and save yourself the pain of constructing a USB cable?

If you are making a one-off cable, I suppose it doesn't matter what the color coding is, but this site explains the standard USB color coding
