Hi,

I am looking for ready made RTU units or PLCs for a Computer Assisted
Railway Control System. This hardware unit must be able to perform the following:

1. Interface the control signals carried through the TCP/IP based
communication network to the existing control relay bank.

2. Transmit the status of the indication relays in the form of a bit stream.

An Isolation circuits also should be there to protect the microcontroller network from surge currents in the relay system.

Can you please point out some reliable products which suit my need?

You definitely need Opto22. Opto22 is perfect for that application and is an Ethernet based TCP/IP controller and rack card brains that all are based on IEEE1394 memory mapped protocol (firewire) for their tag base. They have one of the largest base of I/O available and are all opto isolated. I beleive Opto22 was used for the French High Speed Rail system and it was also used for the Chunnel control as well as the Amsterdam Airport System.

Programming is entirely based on flow chart logic with no ladder at all and only uses 4 basic blocks for the logic, route, action, conditional, and script.
