Modbus RS232 with Fiber optic Line Drivers

I intend to make two different DCS systems exchange process information (READ and WRITE) through RS 232 Modbus serial links. The distance between the two is about 2 kilometers. Fiberoptic line drivers and fiber cable (62.5 micron multimode) shall be used to carry and convert the signals at either end.

Any good ideas on how I can make the comms link work seamlessly especially with respect to choice of fiber optic line drivers, the pin designations at either end etc.

B,
Get to know the pinouts for the two devices that you are trying to match. If you can connect them to each other first, within the same room, without the fiber optics between them, you have that much less to worry about. Find out which signals, within the connectors, need to be asserted to allow communications. Find a way to verify each item of the system individually. Write to myself, or anyone else, for additional help if you need it! Good luck
