Hello all, i am new on here and please help me if i am in the wrong place for this question. i am looking for help to design or understand what components i need for a battery powered motor and related components to drive a childs ride on toy car development. for example a similar system to what the plastic childrens toy cars are using or something similar to the likes of toylander toy cars . simply need a backward and forward switch, a fast and slow setting, a foot pedal and motor that is going to work. the build of the car will be wooden.

 

I made something similar once. I used this motor: https://sciplus.com/car-seat-12vdc-gear-motor/ and a motor control board from Pololu: https://www.pololu.com/category/10/brushed-dc-motor-controllers In my case, interfacing to a RC-controlled electronic speed control.

It was pretty successful. You can see it here:

although that was before I upgraded the motor to the one with the link above, which is faster and much more quiet.

The main change I made was to ensure that hooking up the battery backwards does not blow the electronics, you can guess how I learned the value of that...
