Newer versions of CIMPLICITY missing EGD protocol

Hello Folks,
We have been trying or the past 1 week to establish connection between a Mark VI controller to Cimplicity 11.1 and 12 (2023) using GE EGD but under the protocol selection we are unable to find the protocol at all. The older version of Cimplicity 6.1 SP6 shows the protocol and communicates. We are seeing all the live turbine data on the Control ST 7.10 and Workstation ST 7.10. We created the SDB folder as well under Control ST. The Cimplicity application is pulling al data from the BB system over MBTCP however is failing to pul data over EDG.
Also when we start the Cimplity project in Workbench the Master_Enet0 fails which is the port for the EGD.

Do you know if we the newer versions of Cimplicty does not have the EGD protocol drivers

  1. Does Cimplicity 2023 (Version 12) support GE EGD protocol (GEDS_EGD and GEDS_ICN), we are unable to find it
  2. Is there a service pack for Cimplicity 2023 version 12 with EGD drivers
Please advise
Thanks
Regards

Hello Sacheen,
First, let's understand what you are trying to accomplish. It seems like you have an HMi with Cimplicity 6.1 SP6 currently connected to a MK VI controller, correct? Now, it seems you are trying to upgrade the HMI to Cimplicity 11 or 12, correct?
There is a process to upgrade HMIs, which also includes ControlST, since ETCSS is no longer used as the main controller/HMI platform. The SDB is still used on the new software and should be configured accordingly, and yes EGD comes standard, as well as OPC. Have you contacted the OEM for the upgrade?

Your understanding is correct. We have a XP box with Cimplicity 6.1 SP 6 working currently, We have a new box with Windows 10 with Control ST 7.10 and Cimplicity 12 (2023), all EGD data is coming into the control ST SDB, however the EGD data is not coming into Cimplicity 12, we do not see EGD protocol in the newer versions of Cimplicity.
However Cimplicity is pulling the Bentley Neveda data over MBTCP.

Workstation ST is also see all the live data. We do not see the EDG protocol under newer version of Cimplicty as per the attached photo under project setting.

By the way, who is doing this upgrade ? Is it by GE or BH/NEXUS/CSS ?
The newer version of cimplicity if provided by GE then it runs in Advanced Viewer only mode i.e, it does't use project any more. If that is the case, then it may not have EGD module licensed. You may verify it in your license client. The combination appears to be licensed through LicenseST - do confirm it.
Or may proficy license client ?

In such case, cimplicity will fetch the data directly through WorkstationST through OPC DA /AE.

Ask the upgrading team to address the issue.
Mean while try to raise a ticket with their support team.
You will get a faster resolution than in open forums.

We have written to GE digital on 20 December and are still awaiting a reply. We are doing the upgrade ourselves. If you are interested we can show you live session on teams. We tried both advanced viewer only and also through running the project. Cimplicity is pulling the data from Bentely Nevada over MBTCP.

Wow, never heard off such brave action by any site "upgrade by yourselves". Which country this site is from & what is the site name?

Guess GE Digital folks may be on Xmas holidays, soon you will hear from them.
Its not an easy task, you really need knowledgeable person since you are having legacy Mark VI with latest version of Cimplicity. Resolving this issue over video call is not that easy. Fixing your issue may take several hours of efforts.
I would prefer to engage GE or BH / Nexus / CSS team.

But what ever you do, take a back up of your system and test it and ensure that back up is working fine and keep it safe.
Then proceed with your upgrade efforts.
