I'm looking for a circuit to isolate a com port to protect the equipment on both ends , in case there is a voltage differance which could damage the port.

If serial port data is or can be converted to RS-485 then DGH A1000-115, A2000 or DIN-191 product will work. The A1000 and A2000 are isolated to 1500Vrms. The DIN-191 is isolated to 500Vrms. See "www.dghcorp.com":http://www.dghcorp.com .
