Selection note for a short-stroke packaging mechanism: control, guided motion and air preparation have different jobs. The useful checks sit at their interfaces.
1. Control to coil: check the PLC output type, inductive-load rating and switching duty. Relay contacts need a suitable electrical-life calculation; matching the nominal voltage is not enough. Confirm coil suppression and its effect on release time.
2. Air to motion: size the filter regulator, directional valve, tubing and exhaust for the required flow. Measure pressure near the valve while the cylinder moves. A normal static gauge reading does not rule out an airflow restriction.
3. Guide to tooling: confirm required stroke, force, offset load and allowable moments. Position feedback should confirm arrival, with separate extend/retract timeouts. Do not assume a guided cylinder is an impact absorber.
A shortlist to evaluate is Delta DVP20EX311RE (listed as DC input, relay outputs and Ethernet), Mindman MCGD-03-20-30-NPT (20 mm bore, 30 mm stroke, slide bearing), and SMC AW20-N02BC-B (NPT 1/4 filter regulator, no gauge). Add the directional valve, sensors, power supply and suitable measurement points. The three listed components are not a complete assembly.
Commissioning question: when the output switches correctly but the mechanism arrives late, which measurement best separates relay/coil delay, air restriction and mechanical drag? Record command-to-motion and motion-to-sensor times rather than increasing the timeout blindly. Verify exact variants and validate the complete machine.
