Ruggedcom Ethernet Switch

Dear all, I would like to know what is the normal life span for an ethernet switch. I'm an Electrical Engineer and rarely used this equipment in my job, but now I am. I hope someone can give me some advice about this. I would like to know what is the Mean Time Between Failure for this component. Thank you.

20 minutes to 2 milenia, depending on environment and manufacturer. There is no inherent wearout mechanism, most die from lightning, overheat, connector damage, etc. Ignoring those, the manufacturer will quote a number that ensures that neither you or he will be around to prove.

"Normal life span" and "MTBF" are not the same thing. I would expect ten years out of an industrial Ethernet switch. That's not the same as MTBF, which is probably some meaningless number anyway. MTTF, or "Mean Time To Fail," is closer to "normal life span." MTTF numbers are almost never provided.

Though if you were already looking at Ruggedcom, why not ask them?

Dear all,

thank you for the replies. About asking the manufacturer, I don't think they will let me know it will fail in "xx" years. But, looking at the warranty period, I think it should be good for at least 5 years unless something abnormal happens; i.e. lightning as have been said above. Thank you again.

Mind if I use this contact too?
