Sensor and automation specialist Balluff has released its latest magnetic field position measuring system. The system is designed to help users in smart factories receive better object position feedback without some of the pitfalls associated with more traditional position monitoring equipment.

A New Flexible Solution From Balluff

Balluff has prioritized flexibility in its new BMP magnetic field position measuring system to suit the constant flux of the modern manufacturing environment. The BMP is also customizable for individual manufacturing processes—high dynamics and repeatability can be configured into the parameters before commissioning. 

The BMP system can provide a complete view of products throughout different processes without physically touching the objects in question. This ability helps keep machine monitoring consistent without the fear of wear caused by object monitoring methods that rely on physical contact.

Magnetic Field Position Measuring

The BMP system contains a number of features that can benefit manufacturers looking to enhance their manufacturing processes. The system's contact-free monitoring capabilities help give wear-free, reliable service throughout the lifetime of its use. Additionally, small spaces are not a problem—the BMP system can effectively provide position feedback in areas with even the tightest real estate concerns.  

The system can detect both axial and radial magnets. Temperature drift is very slight on the sensors, and they maintain good electromagnetic compatibility. IO-Link capabilities ensure the system can be used in modern manufacturing environments to provide reliable data for industry 4.0 capable systems. Industry 4.0 capability also gives users access to things like predictive maintenance, format changes, and condition monitoring. 

The product can be configured according to individual installation and operation requirements. With a measuring range of 32 to 256 mm, the technology will fit into most manufacturing applications, and a temperature range of -25-85 ℃ ensures the system can be used in all but the most extreme environments. Balluff hopes to increase manufacturing transparency for users of their latest magnetic monitoring system to help prevent errors and failures.

BMP System Capabilities

Balluff’s BMP magnetic field position measuring system can be used for a range of individual tasks. Some examples include the control of assembly processes in the automotive manufacturing industry, format changes, and process parameter adjustment during synchronous movements in the packaging industry. The new BMP looks to help manufacturers gain better control over their manufacturing processes while remaining energy efficient even when dealing with the simultaneous processing of objects. 

The BMP can also be used to monitor pneumatic cylinders; these cylinders are commonly used equipment, and many manufacturers can benefit from efficient, accurate monitoring of these cylinders. The magnetic field positioning systems can record the end positions of the cylinders contact-free to guarantee accurate movements and safe processes in a machine or automated system.
