As industrial automation continues to push the limits of speed, precision, and space efficiency, manufacturers require measurement tools that deliver consistent performance under increasingly constrained conditions. Industrial sensor provider Baumer has released a new series of process sensors that address these needs with compact and reliable pressure, temperature, and conductivity measurements. The new 50 series features robust stainless steel housing, an intuitive touchscreen, and high performance, providing a desirable solution for challenging environments, including food production, pharmaceutical processing, and industrial water treatment.

50 Series Process Sensors

Each 50 series process sensor is tailored for specific applications. For example, the PP56 pressure sensors ensure precise measurements through active temperature compensation, making them ideal for tasks like hydrostatic level detection and pressure monitoring. The PT55 temperature sensors, on the other hand, have a wide operating range of -50 to 250 °C and fast response times, supporting applications such as cooling circuit control. Finally, the PAC50 conductivity sensors feature a rapid 15-second response time, making them an ideal choice for critical applications in hygienic and industrial environments where accuracy and speed are essential.

All three sensor groups have a compact profile, measuring just 50.4 x 62 mm. This compact build allows easy installation in confined spaces and enables manufacturers to design smaller, more efficient systems without sacrificing performance.

Intuitive Controls and Durability

The 50 series sensors are designed with a user-friendly operating concept centered on a high-resolution touch display. This touchscreen eliminates the need for mechanical buttons, which can compromise sealing integrity. The uniform interface simplifies parameterization and calibration across the series, reducing setup and maintenance time while maintaining consistency in operation.

The sensors feature a rotatable sensor head and process connections to enhance flexibility, allowing operators to read measurements from vertical or overhead positions easily. Users can configure parameters directly on the display or via external tools such as Baumer’s Flexprogrammer or IO-Link connectivity. Customizable backlighting aids monitoring by allowing operators to assign color-coded status indicators, such as green for acceptable conditions and red for anomalies, enabling clear visibility even at a distance.

The 50 series sensors are housed in stainless steel and are built to withstand demanding industrial environments. The sensors meet IP67 and IP69k standards, offering resistance to high-pressure cleaning and frequent temperature fluctuations. This design ensures reliable performance in applications requiring hygienic cleaning processes, such as CIP/SIP, or exposure to harsh operating conditions.

Improved Process Automation

Baumer’s modular design approach ensures the 50 series process sensors integrate into existing systems. The sensors are compatible with master controllers, allowing manufacturers to upgrade their automation capabilities without overhauling existing infrastructure.

For users prioritizing precision and simplicity, the 50 series provides an appealing alternative to more complex sensor systems. The focus on compact design and straightforward operation aligns with industries' demands to balance performance with cost-efficiency.
