Emerson’s New Eco-Friendly Valve Actuator for Extreme Conditions

February 12, 2024 by Bob Odhiambo

Emerson has recently introduced a new electric valve actuator that can work in adverse industrial conditions while maintaining accuracy with an eco-friendly operation.

Emerson, a global technology and software company known for its innovative solutions in industrial automation, has recently announced the latest in a line of valve actuator technology, the self-calibrating Fisher™ easy-Drive™ 200R Electric Actuator.

Designed for use on ball valves and Fisher butterflies, the new actuator by Emerson offers a more sustainable and reliable option to gas-operated actuators as it can accurately operate under extreme industrial environments. This makes the innovative actuator suitable for heavy industry applications, like the installation of oil and gas in locations that are cold and remote, as the new valve assembly offers, decreasing the risk of emissions caused by gas-operated system locations, enhanced performance, and increased uptime.

Key Features of the 200R Actuator

The new 200R actuator is equipped with a one-click button that works with a free easy-Drive Configurator Software that comes with the actuator to simplify its calibration and installation. Designed for low energy consumption, Emerson's 200R electric actuator can be used in situations where utility power is unavailable as it only uses less than 0.4 watts when in holding position mode and runs on 11 to 30 VDC power, which makes it suitable for both 12 and 24 volt systems. Equipped with an optional RPU-100 reserve power unit, the actuator can still work in the event of power loss, allowing adjustments to the user-defined positions.

When it comes to operating temperature, the actuator can function in temperatures as low as -40°C, which means that it can operate in all but the most extreme temperature settings without the requirement for a space heater. The new 200R also has a Modbus RTU serial interface for remote configuration and real-time tracking of movements, position, power outages, travel time to position, and cycles. The electric valve actuator also has CSA, ATEX, and IECEx certifications.

Expansion of easy-Drive Actuator Portfolio

Beyond the 200R, Emerson has alternatives for globe and rotary valves in its easy-drive actuator line, delivering a wide range of solutions for diverse industrial applications. As valve actuator technology keeps on improving, engineers must seek solutions that exhibit accurate performance and consume less power while reducing the overall environmental carbon footprint. The new Fisher easy-Drive 200R Electric Actuator shows Emerson's dedication to providing essential industrial solutions that cater to the challenges faced by traditional valve technologies. This makes it a potential go-to choice for those seeking a balance of accuracy, performance, and eco-friendly valve operation.
